Google, Amazon, Microsoft & other companies offering over Rs 1 lakh stipends to undergraduate interns

Internships lasting 3-6 months are becoming highly coveted opportunities for undergraduate engineering students in India, especially in the tech industry. With monthly stipends of Rs 1 lakh or more, companies like Amazon, Google, Intuit India, Microsoft, Palo Alto, and Goldman Sachs are attracting top talent. These internships serve as pathways to lucrative full-time positions in fields such as data science, cloud computing, and analytics.

This year, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of students securing such internships. For instance, RV College of Engineering in Bengaluru saw 39 students earning stipends exceeding Rs 1 lakh, while 27 students at IIT Mandi achieved similar feats. Additionally, 30 students received scholarships worth Rs 1 lakh from companies like Couchbase and Amazon, with the internship window still open.

V Samuel Rajkumar, director of VIT’s career development center, emphasizes the importance of technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a continuous learning mindset for securing these high-paying internships.

Professor Ranganath D from RV College of Engineering noted that companies like Amazon, UiPath, and Microsoft are offering stipends as high as Rs 1.4 lakh for various tech roles. These internships provide students with valuable exposure to real-world scenarios and the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies, paving the way for their future careers.

Moreover, companies like Atlassian, Uber, and Google are also offering Rs 1 lakh stipends to interns, as reported by Himani Sood, the pro-chancellor of Chandigarh University.

Even niche companies are offering attractive internship packages. For example, Veritas Technologies selected 10 computer science students from MIT-World Peace University in Pune for internships with a Rs 1 lakh salary.

According to Naveen C, senior manager of training and placement at Reva University, internships can lead to lucrative job offers. For instance, a student interning with Visa received a stipend of Rs 90,000 and later secured an employment offer with an annual salary exceeding Rs 50 lakh.

Last year, VIT students received record-breaking offers, with a company called MotorQ offering an annual compensation of Rs 1 crore to two students, inclusive of stock awards. This underscores the immense value that internships hold for students seeking rewarding career opportunities in the tech industry.
